If you’ve been following along, you’re probably like “Yo Jon, I didn’t know you write?” (me neither) “…When did you start?” My usual answer is “Oh you know, a few months ago. Decided I wanted to be the next Matt Levine.” And, voila, this semi-coherent stream of consciousness was born.
Now, if that were the reality, that would be cool. It would make sense, given it’s all about the “side hustles” these days. Even your grandpa has a dropshipping business. So why not join in on the fun? As much as I’d love to have a few sponsors one day, that is in fact not the current mission of these posts.
Like many of you, I dealt with this little event called the Pandemic (or la Pandemia for my Spanish-speaking friends) for the last bit. That, combined with just graduating college, combined with working in a relatively high-commitment role, combined with remote work, combined with being an individual who is not overly fond of the whole alcohol-as-a-form-of-entertainment thing, and holy cow, look at that! You have a recipe for solitude.
Of course, I still chat with my university mates, my work friends, my friends from high school, my girlfriend (bless her soul for supporting my ramblings), but sometimes it feels like something is, I don’t know, missing?
I think the word I’m looking for is serendipity. That random collision of individuals where you happen to strike up a conversation and become friends? Especially during young adulthood? Yeah, I was missing that in my premeditated, mostly-scheduled life.
So I figured, “hey, why don’t I spend a couple hours every weekend attempting to articulate my version of the world, throw it out there for others to look at, and see if I get any bites?”
And here we are. If someone slides into my messages to grab a coffee / jump on a zoom call / etc. and chat about, you know, stuff, great! Mission accomplished.
And if I one day hit Matt Levine status, even better.
If you ever want to spar on a topic or share perspectives, you know where to find me!
Have a fantastic weekend. Oh, and make sure to tell your grandpa that you love him. And that you support his drive to build a dropshipping empire.
